 Individual Psychotherapy

I work with many issues such as anxiety, childhood trauma, chronic medical problems, depression, grief, life transitions, self-esteem issues, PTSD, and work stress.  I believe that by working together to gain insight and motivation to change, you can overcome your current difficulties and rebuild your life in a more fulfilling way.

I generally use cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and short-term, strength-based approaches to empower you to create and implement your own goals for therapy and to help reduce your current emotional difficulties. I also utilize additional evidence-based treatments, such as environmental modifications or mindfulness practices, to tailor treatment to your unique needs. By developing insights and practicing effective coping skills, I believe you will be able to live more meaningfully.

I offer both in-person and telehealth.  I see clients in person on Mondays and Fridays; all other appointments are provided via telehealth.

Couples Therapy

My work is to help you and your partner navigate challenging issues such as communication difficulties, parenting, cross-cultural family conflicts, and caregiving for aging parents. Couples therapy offers a safe space to explore these issues, fostering open communication and rebuilding the emotional connection by working on gaining insight, setting boundaries, realizing self-compassion, and learning to support each other.

I offer culturally sensitive, affirming care drawing from effective approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Family Systems therapy, integrating emotionally focused and trauma-informed care.

I offer only in-person couples counseling since I have found that being together in the same space is when working through sensitive relationship issues. I see clients in person on Mondays and Fridays.

Trauma Counseling

The experience of a traumatic event can profoundly affect your life and how you think, feel, and interpret your surroundings. You may feel that your trauma still has lingering effects in your current life because you are devoting a large portion of your emotional energy to control your environment to avoid negative thoughts, feelings, or sensations that are triggering.

I believe that by working together to realize patterns of your behaviors and learning new tools to improve your coping skills, you will be able to live well and thrive instead of being constantly hijacked by past trauma.

      Adjustment-Based Psychotherapy

If you have chronic medical disorders such as brain injuries, dementia, long COVID, or movement disorders, you may find it difficult to adjust to your current medical situation.  You may also feel anxious about your future recovery and frustrated with your mind not being as efficient as it used to be.  Physiological effects of your illness may create additional emotional changes, such as mood swings and irritability.  It is also very common that there may be tension and problems between you and your loved ones due to caregiving stressors.  Left untreated, these issues may not only impact the quality of life, but they can also significantly impair your rehabilitation process and recovery. For these reasons, I believe it is vitally important that you and your family have supportive psychotherapy to help you learn new tools.

I will work with you to identify environmental and behavioral modifications that will improve adjustment issues and help you and your family to address the full range of emotional challenges to improve communications with your loved ones.

Neuropsychological Assessment

If you have neurological conditions, such as Alzheimer's, stroke, Parkinson's, long COVID, or traumatic brain injuries, or other underlying medical conditions, your doctor may recommend a neuropsychological assessment.

Neuropsychological assessment is a comprehensive evaluation that measures various cognitive functions, including memory, attention, language, and problem-solving skills.  It typically involves a series of standardized tests and interviews to understand how brain function affects behavior and mental processes. This assessment can help you and your caregiver team identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses, providing valuable insights for diagnosis and treatment planning.

Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation

Patient and family needs vary significantly depending on the type and severity of the TBI or impairment. So in the program, I work closely with you and your family to develop and implement individualized treatment goals and plans.  This overall treatment process typically involves five main areas:

Assessment: I start the treatment with neuropsychology testing to measure overall brain functioning.

  1. Education: Educate you and your family about your current cognitive functioning and what to expect during recovery.

  2. Goal Setting: We will then create your short- and long-term goals for your rehabilitation.

  3. Rehabilitation: You and I will be working together on implementing targeted rehabilitation to accomplish these goals.

  4. Supportive Counseling: Regularly monitor progress and provide brain injury-specific psychotherapy for improving mood, coping, and quality of life for both you and your family.

Cognitive Skill Building

After your brain illness, you may think, "I can do this, I always have," only to find that you can't.  This can be very upsetting and may cause significant emotional distress since we depend on our brain to function in day-to-day activities. If you are dealing with brain injury, early dementia, or just having difficulties being effective in life, I will help you by coming up with personalized strategies and targeting specific cognitive skills, such as memory, attention, and problem-solving. These activities can enhance your daily functioning and help you regain control. Cognitive rehabilitation aims to support and empower patients on their journey to recovery.
